Particles & contact effects

Why are there no particles when objects collide?

Select the object that should produce the effect. In Particle Settings, choose a saved Particle Effect and enable Play Particles On Contact. Lower Minimum Contact Force To Play Particles for a test. Confirm the bodies really collide and are not sensors or excluded by collision filters.

Why does a one-shot effect keep appearing?

Impulse count 1 limits a single playback. Separate qualifying contacts can start separate playbacks. Check Repeat impulses on every active emitter and raise the contact-force threshold if tiny repeated contacts should be ignored.

Why do my particles stay still or never disappear?

Velocity needs Move to update positions. Finite lifetimes need Life together with Age and Death Life. Keep a preset’s working actions while changing its graphic, then adjust one setting at a time.

Drawing & brushes

Why can’t I paint on this layer?

Choose a visible, unlocked raster layer and select Brush. Vector layers keep editable geometry: edit that geometry with its own tool, or add a raster layer for painting. Turn Pan off and release Space if dragging moves the canvas.

Why does Density do nothing to my brush?

Density changes the contents of supported tips. It does not change Round or Square. With Single Shape on, a supported brush stamps one element, so Density no longer controls that element.

Compare brush settings →
What is the difference between Scatter and Spread?

Scatter changes gaps between stamps along a stroke. Spread moves whole stamps sideways across the stroke. Try changing one at a time. Single Shape can help make individual leaves or marks easier to distinguish.

How do I export and import an editable drawing?

Choose Export → Save Drawing for an .amd file with editable layers and vector shapes. Open the Draw Image create popup and choose Import to reopen it. Export PNG creates a flattened image. Imported drawings currently open with default brush and tool settings.

How do I paint only inside a selection?

Make a rectangle, circle or brush selection on the active raster layer and leave it standing. Brush, Erase, Smudge and Paint Bucket are clipped to this selected area. Deselect when you want to edit the whole layer again.

Characters & controls

Why are walking controls disabled?

Enable Ragdoll Movement and select Walk. Turn Automatic Walk off if your version includes it. Enable Control Walking With Controls before choosing Walking Controls or Enable Walking In Both Directions.

Set up a walking character →
Why does my character ignore the left/right input?

The ragdoll’s Walking Controls must match a control source actually enabled in the level. Check primary versus secondary controls and joystick versus buttons. Use the visible in-game controls for the first test, then test your preferred input.

Check control sources →
Why does the dressed character catch on the floor?

Skins change the authored body parts, so inspect the foot contacts and joints. Test a flat floor, the starting size and no held equipment. Debug Draw helps reveal collision shapes. Tune speed after the simple scene works.

Troubleshoot a ragdoll →
How do I give the Main Character a weapon?

Select the Main Character, open Object Settings and enable Enable Weapon. Choose Weapon, then use the Action control during play. Choose stones, rocks, a knife, a bomb or one of the guns. Weapon selection is disabled until Enable Weapon is on.

How do I change character colors and textures?

Open Character Colors → Configure. Character Main, Upper Clothing, Pants and Shoes have separate controls on supported skins. Robots use Character Main and disable the clothing groups.

Why can I not attach a ragdoll to a bicycle?

Turn off Enable Movement, including Stand, Balance and Walk. Select Attach To Vehicle and choose a Mountain Bike, City Bicycle, Road Bicycle or Scooter. Use the resize popup when the rider and vehicle sizes do not fit.

Open the guide →
How can a character walk and throw at the same time?

Custom Movie Clip supports independent timelines. Main Character weapons use a Weapon timeline and an Arm layer while the movement timeline animates the legs. Layers of the same timeline share its frame.

Levels & saving

Why do objects pass through my platform?

Set the floor Body Type to Static, turn Is Sensor off and check collision filters on both objects. Matching negative collision group indices suppress collisions. Render layers control appearance separately from collisions.

Check bodies and collision groups →
How do I save and share a small example?

Save Level first. Use Export Level and Save as .am file when your version offers file export. Text export can also be copied and imported. On the receiving install, use Import Level and Import .am file, or paste the exported text. Reopen and test the imported copy before sharing it.

Where should a new creator start?

Build one flat platform, add a dressed character, connect a control source and try a saved particle effect. Test each addition before saving the level. The Start Here guide walks through that sequence.
