Destroy Effects & Real Fragments

Combine a visual destruction effect with real physics fragments that carry pieces of the destroyed object's artwork.

Creator guide

What you can build

Combine a visual destruction effect with real physics fragments that carry pieces of the destroyed object's artwork.

The options below are grouped by the way you use them. Available controls depend on the selected object, editor mode and enabled features.

Effect and fragments

Effect and fragments options
OptionWhat it does
Enable Destroy Effect / Destroy Effect Type / Destroy Effect DurationChoose a visual destruction effect and its duration. Its appearance is configured in the corresponding effect settings.
Enable Real Destroy FragmentsSplit a destroyed object into smaller physics objects rather than only removing its artwork.
Destroy Fragments AmountChoose 2-64 pieces. The default is 8; begin with a small amount when tuning a scene.
Destroy Fragments Group IndexSet the fragments' collision group index. A shared negative value prevents those fragments from colliding with each other.
Destroy Fragments Explosion Power MultiplicatorScale the impact that destroyed the object. This multiplies the recorded blow rather than supplying a fixed explosion force.
Fragment Life DurationSet lifetime in seconds. The default is 6; 0 keeps fragments until the level ends.
Cut Fragments As GridUse a grid-based cutting pattern.
Fragment Scale Randomization FactorVary piece sizes. At 0, the cutting process tries to keep sizes similar.
Fragment Fracture Contour NoiseVary fracture edges. At 0, the cut lines are straight.

Visual effect settings

Visual effect settings options
OptionWhat it does
Wind X / Wind Y / Wind Strength / Local Wind StrengthControl the direction and influence of wind for the supported effect.
Dust Strength / Dust Scale / Dissolve SoftnessTune the dust appearance, scale and softness of disappearance.
Edge Amount / Dust Tint AmountTune the edge contribution and dust tint.
Burn Amount / Burn Scale / Burn SoftnessTune the burn coverage, pattern scale and softness.
Ember Intensity / Edge GlowControl glowing embers and the brightness of the burning edge.
Ash Amount / Char Amount / Char Dissolve AmountTune the ash, charred appearance and removal of the charred surface.
Original Color RetentionKeep more or less of the original artwork's color in the burn treatment.
Electric Intensity / Electric Edge Glow / Electric Inner GlowTune electrical brightness at the edge and inside the silhouette.
Flash Amount / Flicker Amount / Glitch Amount / RGB Shift AmountTune flashes, flickering and channel-shift distortion.
Vaporize Amount / Vaporize Scale / Vaporize SoftnessTune the electrical vaporization pattern.
Arc Amount / Arc Thickness / Arc BrightnessControl the number, width and brightness of electrical arcs.
Noise Strength / Noise Scale / Electric Tint Amount / White Hot AmountTune noise, tint and the white-hot contribution of the electric treatment.
Wave Thickness / Wave Glow / Wave IntensityTune the visible ring of the wave effect.
Wave Erase Softness / Wave Erase Amount / Wave Fade AmountTune how the wave removes and fades the object.
Wave Distortion Strength / Wave Distortion ThicknessTune the distortion around the traveling wave.
Wave Noise Amount / Wave Noise Scale / Wave Ring SharpnessControl variation and edge sharpness of the ring.
Wave Tint Amount / Wave White Hot Amount / Wave Original Color RetentionMix tint, white-hot highlights and the source artwork in the wave effect.

Creator guide

Try it in a level

Start with a small scene so each setting has a visible result.

  1. Choose an object and configure the damage or destruction condition first.
  2. Open Destroy Effect settings and choose the visual treatment.
  3. Enable real fragments, begin with 8 pieces and a finite lifetime, then tune the impact multiplier.
  4. Test repeated destruction and collisions with the player. Use contour noise or a grid cut only after the basic behavior works.

If the result looks wrong

Use the symptom to find the next setting to check.

Pieces push each other apart violently

Try a shared negative fragment group index and reduce the explosion multiplier.

Fragments accumulate in the scene

Set a finite Fragment Life Duration and reduce piece counts on frequently destroyed objects.

A visual effect plays but no physical pieces appear

Enable Real Destroy Fragments independently of the visual effect.
